3 Team Cricket - The Latest Format!

Today, I got all my answers. I got to know why the earlier generation to our age group does not like a T20 match that much. Today was the day when a new kind of cricket match was played. It was the latest entry of a format to the game of cricket named as 3TC. It was 3 Team Cricket match playing altogether in a single match. Firstly, it was very hard to guess what's going on! The extraordinary cricket match was played between 3 teams at SuperSport Park, Centurion.

It was hard to digest kind of a Cricket match which was launched on Nelson Mandela Day. The motive of the Solidary Cup 3TC is to raise funds for those in the cricketing community who have suffered due to COVID19.

The rules of the match was a little different as compared to any other cricket match. My definition for the 3 Team Cricket is “It was 6 over long test match played between 3 teams”.

Rules were such as:
  • 3TC was a 36 overs match played between 3 teams.
  • Each team had 8 players.
  • There were 2 innings each of 18 overs where all the team bats 6 overs against each opponent.
  • Each bowler can only bowl a maximum of 3 overs against each opponent.
  • If the 7th wicket fall, the not out batter could bat alone.
  • The team whosoever scored more would win the game.
When the first team bats, the second team bowls, and the third is on the bench. Now, the team that batted has to bowl, and the team which was in the dugout come out to bat. Then lastly, the second team bats and the third team which didn't bowl at all bowls. In the second innings, the team with the most runs bats and with the least bowls, and the earlier cycle goes for one another inning.

3 teams participated in the inaugural match of the Solidarity Cup. AB de Villiers, Quinton de Kock, and Kagiso Rabada were originally supposed to be the captains. De Kock and Kagiso Rabada pulled out of the match & Temba Bavuma and Reeza Hendricks led their respective sides.

De Villiers led AB’s Eagles who posted a grand total of 160/4 (66/1 & 94/3), Bavuma captained Quinny’s Kites who scored 138/3 (58/1 & 80/2), and lastly, Reeza was the skipper of KG’s Kingfishers who scored the least 113/5 (56/2 & 57/3).

Eagles won the Gold, Kites won Silver, and lastly Kingfishers Bronze. Glenton Stuurman won the play of the day award.
