India must be known for being the land of lords and cultures for many centuries but India is also a land that has produced many individual sportspersons as well. India has produced personas like Major Dhyan Chand, Sachin Tendulkar, PT Usha, Sardar Milkha Singh, and many other legends from sports.

Dhyan Chand was India’s first-ever global icon who won seven out of eight Olympic Golds for his nation therefore every year on his birth anniversary, the Sports Authority of India with the Government of India celebrated the top athletes and their performances in the last year or so.

For many years, India only had one or two sporting figures but with time and broadcast, more and more sports identities have come up and made their name in the international arena.

Now, we have top athletes in the world in every sport from our nation which is not purely because of one reason. Money, motivation, communication, and support from the authorities and the governments play an important role in it.

India has many successful names all over the International level in every sport possible. For instance, the Indian Hockey team is regarded as the best team in the world, Indian football is budding its way up with ISL being a brand, Athletes like Sakshi Malik, the Phogat sisters, Mirabai Chanu, Sumit Nagpal or Sushil Kumar have become unbeaten. The Cricket team and the Kabaddi team are haven’t been mentioned right now.

SANIA MIRZA

The biggest sportswoman from India started out at the international scene in 2003. She broke all the cultural and social barriers and became the world no 1 in 2015 has to be India’s most controversial player. She was criticized for what not but her motivation never came down. She won 5 grand slam titles in her decade long carrier.



MITHALI RAJ

The Indian cricketing goddess who has played the role of Sachin for the women’s team in the majority of her carrier, taking the load of the entire batting lineup on her own shoulders. A young 16 years older who had her debut for the national team back in 1999. A South Indian girl from a conservative family who was world No 1 for the longest time is also the world-leading run-scorer. The 37 years young Mithali is had extreme fitness rituals and therefore she still has fitness like a 25 years old woman. Currently, she out of the T20 set up and she is the captain for India in ODIs and tests, she is pushing all the boundaries for the only goal which is the WORLD CUP TRIUMPH. 



MC MARY KOM

We all knew Mary Kom from her biopic where Priyanka Chopra played Kom’s role but the Indian boxer is much more that. She has won 6 World Amateur boxing championships, 8 medals in the world championships so far. 6 out of 8 are gold medals and she also won silver and bronze each in the Championship. Apart from it she also has 7 Asian championship medals, 2 Asian games medals and one each in Commonwealth games and the Olympics. She was also going to represent Indian in the Tokyo Olympics which got pushed due the coronavirus outspread but in the 37 years old boxer is India key contender to win another medal. 



SAINA NEHWAL

Saina who was India’s most popular shuttler before PV Sindhu. Saina who still very popular but according to many is past her prime. She became the first woman and only India after Prakash Padukone to have become World No 1. She became the household name in India after the London Olympics when she won the Bronze medal for the nation. Till then she had earned many medals and fame in the Badminton fraternity but her own country celebrated her a little late. She has 5 commonwealth medals, 2 world championship medals, and countless medals in the Asian games (both in junior & senior categories).



VIRAT KOHLI

The current Indian cricket captain, the most celebrated India, and undoubtedly the best batsman in the world currently. Virat Kohli who is his purple patch from the past 7 or 8 years is also regarded as the best ODI batsman produced by our nation. He’s also the player on whom Tendulkar himself placed a bet to break the record of 100 international centuries. He is merely 31 years old and has already scored 70+ international centuries with his rate of scoring tons he could easily score 100 tons in a span of 3-4 years.


 

 The Indian sportspersons becoming the world leaders was proved in this year’s sports awards when the record-breaking awards were given to the athletes for their accomplishments.
