Image
After the unfortunate incident of Sushant Singh Rajput’s death, every fan is questioning. Everybody on social media is questioning the celebrities. Celebrities across all fields are being criticized. Fans are asking whether Nepotism is present in Sports or not? Former player and commentator Aakash Chopra has also commented to the topic of Nepotism in Cricket and said some Board Administrators make their lads play at the state level with sheer use of power .  There have been examples of cricketers’ offspring playing the sport as well. There have been many such examples in Indian cricket. Amarnaths, Manjrekars, Gavaskars, Binnys, Pataudis, Tendulkars, and Dravids are prime examples. But does nepotism really help in Cricket? Stats and records really do speak for themselves. Lala Amarnath was the first Indian test centurion , two his sons Mohinder & Surender played for India but only the former got more success. Vijay Majrekar was regarded as one of best batsman which Ind

37 Years of Glory!

I was born in 1998. The year in which Sachin’s desert storm came. The year where Indian won 25 medals in Commonwealth Games which was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The year when Anil Kumble took 200 ODI wickets . The year 1998 was also the year when India completed 15 years anniversary of their 1983 World Cup triumph . My grandfather used to tell me all of his stories of the World Cup 83. He was a true cricket lover and with him, I used to watch all the cricket matches. He was a huge Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev fan and he used to tell me how he followed up the WC 83 on radio and watched the final on a friend’s television. India won their first global tournament in 1983 World cup which was then known as Prudential Cup . Kapil Dev a world-class all-rounder and the captain of the Indian team for the tournament. He was merely 24 years old then. He led a team that had the likes of Gavaskar, Vengsarkar, Amarnath, and many other players who were way senior to him. The Indian squad whi

The Indian Hardship in Cricket World Cup 2019

Cricket World Cup 2019 has to be the biggest center stage for all the cricketing nations, their fans, and most importantly for the players who were the ambassadors of the tournament.  It was make and break kind of a tournament for many cricketers. ICC WC 19 saw the end of some legends of the sports too. It was a Round Robin Tournament , first since World Cup 92 and only second in the history of the World Cups. The host England and New Zealand were the two finalists in the World Cup 19 . The final was played at the Lord’s Cricket Ground. England won the Cup because of the match-winning performance of luck and Ben Stokes. There was a tie after 100 overs of play and it again tied after the super over. The winner was decided by the Boundary Rule . England won because they scored more boundaries. New Zealand defeated India in the semifinals . England and India were the two favorites for the tournament. Virat Kohli , the Indian Skipper in the post-match conference after the semifinal s

Cricket Post COVID-19

With all sports across the globe returning back to action after Coronavirus outbreak. Leagues like Bundesliga and NBA restarting with no spectators. Cricket is also about to proceed again with Windies cricket team touring England in June – July for 3 match test series. Cricket will be resuming after the long break due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The last cricket match that was contested before the outbreak was an ODI between Australia and New Zealand on 13 th March. Williamson & Finch at the toss in empty SCG.   Cricket Pundits across the globe have two different perceptions. Some say that cricket should restart as soon as possible but some of them say that play behind closed doors is also a disaster. A senior sports journalist Vikrant Gupta says that “Sports isn’t the most important thing in the world but in lesser important things, it is the most important thing”. On the other hand, Pakistani fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar says “Playing cricket in an empty stadium is like ma

Ball Tempering: The Sandpaper Saga

Image
Ball-tempering is a technique in the sport of cricket where the condition of the cricket ball is tempered. The condition of the ball is changed using foreign objects which can toughen the ball. Ball-tampering is pure science used to change the condition of the ball so that when the ball gets old and losses its shine then also it swings but in an unconventional way. The unconventional swing in cricketing terms is known as “Reverse Swing” . When a ball is tempered, it is tempered in a specific way. One side of the ball is made tough by some foreign object and the other side’s shine is maintained by applying saliva on it. When saliva is applied, the ball becomes heavy from one side, and because of it, the ball swings in the air at the last moment. This is called the reverse swing of a cricket ball. The technique of reverse swing was invented by Pakistani bowlers i.e. Sarfraz Nawaz and Imran Khan. These bowlers first showcased their new talent in the test series of 1982-83 versus
