Is It Okay?

In cricket, there are two schools of thought about Cricket post coronavirus outbreak. There are former players and journalists who are saying that Cricket is reopening too soon. They are against the idea as Coronavirus virus pandemic is at its peak and there is still uncertainty when would the situation be under control. The other group of experts gave a Big Thumbs Up on the issue.

Cricket being resumed after the outbreak as Windies would be touring England for 3 match test series. The players and the West Indies Cricket Board are promised that all the needy precautions would be taken and ECB said their prime concern is safety. The International Cricket is supposed to resume on 8th July.

All the players were quarantined for good 14 days after reaching the UK. A squad of 25 players including 11 reserves was flown by ECB for the test series. ICC had made some key changes for Cricket post Covid19. A COVID substitute would be given, use of saliva is prohibited and Cricket is to be played in a Bio-secured environment.

After Windies Cricket Team, Pakistan is touring England for their test and T20 matches. The series is scheduled for August. Everything was going good for Cricket but news from Pakistan brought the uncertainty back. 10 Pakistani players who were selected for the squad for England tested positive for coronavirus.

On Friday, an official announcement was made by ECB that 20 players squad of Pakistan Cricket Team would land the UK on 28th July and all the players who were tested positive can rejoin the team if they later test negative. The Pakistanis are supposed to be quarantined for 14 days.

Before the Pakistani players testing positive for Covid19, four top Tennis players tested positive for coronavirus including the Tennis No. 1 Novak Djokovic. Djokovic hosted a tennis exhibition tournament in his stadium in Serbia and Croatia. The No. 1 player’s wife Jelena Djokovic also got infected. Djokovic was criticized by his fans and ITF as the tournament did not follow any of the precautionary norms.

Another similar incident was also reported in Football too. Some players, their coaches, and managers got contacted with the virus.

The question has again come up is it the right time to reopen the sports? Is the player safety not that important? Is the Bio-secured environment corona-secured environment?
